What do you picture when you think of celebrities? As far as protection is concerned, you probably think celebrities are at the mercy of their bodyguards.
They always have someone guarding them during appearances and they use the best security technology for their mega-million dollar mansions.
While all of these assumptions are true, celebrities are taking it upon themselves to exercise their Second Amendment rights and to protect themselves.
That’s right; many celebrities are among the 42% of Americans who own a gun.
Here are 15 pro-gun celebrities.
The Top Pro-Gun Celebrities
From famous actors to singers, here are celebrities who aren’t shy about their love of guns.
1. Johnny Depp
You may know Johnny Depp as the silly yet sword-wielding Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, but Depp uses more than a sword to protect himself from treasure-looting pirates.
Depp is a proud gun owner. Why is that? His fascination started when he was a kid. He learned how to shoot and started off shooting cans with handguns, rifles, and even sub-machine guns.
Today, he sees guns as a fun pastime. Though he admits that shooting as humans is wrong — unless, of course, they’re invading your pirate ship!
2. Samuel L. Jackson
“SAY WHAT ONE MORE TIME?”
If Samuel L. Jackson ever appeared with a gun in your face, you only hope he makes his classic speech from the iconic film Pulp Fiction.
But even when he isn’t starring in a Quentin Tarantino film, Samuel L. Jackson is not afraid to admit his pro-gun stance as if he was Fonzie himself.
Samuel L. Jackson came out in the open about his gun supporting views in a surprising way — in an argument after the Sandy Hook Elementary Shootings.
When asked about gun control, his argument was the shooting was caused by the person, not the gun.
3. Marc Anthony
Did you ever picture the suave, famous Puerto Rican singer to wield a gun? If that wasn’t on your mind before, then don’t mess with him! According to the New York Daily News, Marc Anthony has a concealed permit.
But you won’t see him flashing his gun around. His permit only allows him to carry the gun secretively and only take it out when used for protection.
In addition, his permit only states “weapon.” While this usually applies to a gun, who knows what else he could be carrying.
4. Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence is an actress who isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind and cause controversy.
She even admits to being rude to fans, called out organizations such as animal rights group PETA and openly complains about the films she’s in.
Among her confessions is her gun ownership. But her views aren’t fully controversial.
She believes change should be made in gun control and praised the survivors of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting for speaking out to politicians by saying they’re “brave.”
5. Ice T
It’s should be no surprise that the actor, rapper and heavy metal singer is a supporter of gun control. He stands as a supporter of the pro-gun movement.
He gives a compelling argument, stating the right to bear arms is our main defense against tyranny. He only uses his gun for protection. Because of this argument, he doesn’t use his gun for any other reason — not even to hunt.
However, he also said someone who wants to kill you doesn’t have to kill you with a gun. But at least Ice T will be a step above them.
6. Whoopi Goldberg
Comedian Whoopi Goldberg openly admits she has an NRA membership. And when they asked if she’s holding, she had a slick answer: “You don’t want to find out.”
But the answer is yes — she is a gun owner.
She stated her views of gun ownership in this interview. But she also admits she doesn’t believe citizens should own automatic weapons. An automatic weapon’s purpose is to kill, not provide protection.
In addition, she states that she never used her gun to harm and only uses her gun for protection.
7. Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie’s interest in guns started after she became a successful actress.
She fell in love with guns after her role in the Tomb Raider movies. Not only did the film introduce the famous actress to guns but she was also taught how to shoot.
She took the same type of gun used in the film and got one custom-made by Jesse James. Her now ex-husband, Brad Pitt (we’ll get to him next), also got his gun custom-made by James.
James explains they’re both accurate shooters because of the quality parts. If you have an assault rifle and aren’t using parts by Strike Industries, you’re doing it wrong.
8. Brad Pitt
As stated previously, Brad Pitt is another gun owner. He and his former wife, actress Angelina Jolie, had custom guns made by Jesse James. Her gun says “Big Mama” and his gun says “Big Papa.”
Unlike Jolie, Pitt fell in love with guns long before his acting career. He received his first gun when he was in kindergarten.
Today, he loves guns because it’s an American tradition and he overall feels better with his gun. Pitt says he doesn’t feel safe without it. But don’t worry, he explains it’s always concealed.
9. James Earl Jones
Actor James Earl Jones admits he’s a member of the NRA but doesn’t get political about gun ownership. He owns a gun because he believes in the right to bear arms.
This information can be found in his memoir “Voices and Silence.” Other than the memoir, he doesn’t talk about his gun ownership, his NRA membership, or any of his gun beliefs.
It could be because his wife, Cecilia Hart, belongs to the anti-gun lobby.
10. Miranda Lambert
Miranda Lambert is not scared to say she carries a weapon. In an interview with Self, she explains she carries a gun for protection. And the reason why is scary — she received a death threat!
Lambert is one of the few celebrities who admits she doesn’t have a bodyguard and doesn’t want one. She only has herself to protect from any crazy admirers.
You can see Lambert integrating her gun support in her fashion. For example, she wore gun and holster shoes at the Country Music Awards in 2016.
11. Demi Moore
Demi Moore is another famous Hollywood actress who is open about her gun ownership.
When she was with her husband Ashton Kutcher (we will get to him next) he tweeted a picture of her with a machine gun with the caption: “This is why we don’t mess with Mrs. Kutcher.”
Moore starred in many gun-wielding movies, such as Charlie’s Angels.
Not only is Moore a gun advocate, but so is her daughter Rumer. For her 26th birthday Moore made her a gun-shaped birthday cake.
12. Ashton Kutcher
How did Demi Moore get into guns? When she was married to Ashton Kutcher.
The pair bought guns together and they taught Moore’s daughters how to shoot.
His love of guns started early when he would hunt and shoot for fun.
But today, Kutcher has a different view of gun ownership and world news.
After all of the shootings, Kutcher is one of the celebrities advocating for gun reform. It all changed when he had his birthday at the Borderline — the same place where 13 people lost their lives in a shooting.
13. Bruce Willis
Even though Bruce Willis plays the baddest guy in every film, he describes himself as a pacifist. But there’s a reason why he’s so great at playing a tough guy — when he’s in fight mode, he means business.
This is why Willis isn’t afraid to take his stance on pro-gun arguments. He believes in the right to bear arms and to use a gun for protection. As long as the bad guys have guns then the good guys should have guns.
He didn’t step down from his argument, even with all of the mass shootings.
14. Madonna
Madonna is always one for controversy. That’s why the legendary pop star shocked fans when she admitted she’s a gun owner. Her argument is that guns don’t kill people, people kill people.
She even has an argument about banning gun imagery. The uproar started when fans got upset over Madonna using fake guns during her performance.
Her argument is guns are used in pop culture, including action movies.
It doesn’t promote gun use or violence. Madonna also stated she doesn’t condone violence but said the entertainment industry shouldn’t restrict their use of violence in films.
