How To Decorate Your Medical Office to Make Patients Feel Welcome

Daisy · October 14, 2021 · Leave a Comment

As a medical practitioner, you want all of your patients to feel comfortable as soon as they set foot in your office. However, if you’re someone who has just established your practice, you may not be as familiar with what design elements to incorporate into your space in order to make this happen. Are you looking to make sure your waiting room is as comfortable and inviting as possible? If so, here’s how to decorate your medical office to make patients feel welcome.

Add some life to your space with live plants.

Waiting rooms and doctor’s offices don’t have to feel clinical. In fact, bare walls and minimal decorations may instead impact a patient’s mood negatively. One great way to breathe life into your space is by sprucing it up with live plants. Not only does this greenery make your space feel more inviting, but research has shown that live plants can reduce stress and anxiety, which is often something that patients may feel when they need to make any type of health appointment.

Of course, you don’t want to buy a ton of plants that require careful care and constant attention, as these will likely be difficult to maintain over time. Instead, look for a perfect starter plant like the spider plant. Spider plants are very sturdy and will not die off so easily if they’re not in perfect conditions. Additionally, spider plant care is quite simple, as they require only bright indirect light and the average room temperature, and they only need to be watered every 10 to 14 days. Just put a few of these lively plants on some shelves or hang them in the corners of the rooms and you’re well on your way to a brighter, more inviting office.

Fill your space with models and informational products.

Many medical offices have entertainment like magazines so people can stay occupied while they’re waiting. However, some patients may prefer to learn more about their conditions and how you’re going to work with them to treat it. This may inspire greater confidence in them and encourage more people to visit your practice. Let’s say, for example, that you’re a cardiologist in Beverly Hills who provides preventive medicine, health optimization, and cardiology support to help patients work through heart disease. While your website will certainly indicate your years of experience and recognition in the medical field, you can go above and beyond by filling your office with models of the heart to help patients learn more about their anatomy and the issues they may experience or currently be experiencing. You can also supplement this with expert informational brochures that walk them through heart disease and treatment options. Patients will feel much more comfortable when they aren’t left in the dark about their health.

Ditch the minimalistic design most offices use today.

Minimalism is popular in many spaces today, but dull spaces are rarely what doctors are looking for when they want to get patients excited and into their practice. Instead of going minimalistic, consider adding some color to your office by incorporating design elements like an accent wall or an area rug. You may also want to add some colorful chairs rather than the typical waiting room chairs or fun wall adhesives about health. Feel free to get creative. When a space is bright and colorful, it’s naturally going to be more inviting than a plain white, minimally decorated doctor’s office.

Most doctor’s offices today leave a lot to be desired when it comes to the way they look. If you want to stand out from the crowd and have a reputation for being a practice that people want to go to, use some of the tips above to make your medical office more welcoming.
